One of the most effective meditation tools we can use is chakra meditations. I have found these to be incredibly powerful when feeling blocked in certain energy centers.
If you are new to working with these energy centers directly, here are a few tips to get you started in the right direction.
Learn about the 7 Main Chakras
To achieve self healing and development, one must understand the basic 7 chakras and how they work, what they represent and their linkage to different areas of the body. When we are experiencing an imbalance, we can figure out which energy center is blocked, underactive or overactive and handle accordingly.
If you are new to learning about these energy centers, it can be helpful to have a poster of the chakras so you can focus on the visual aspect as you meditate. Another great tool is to use crystals pertaining to whichever chakra(s) you are focusing on.
Here is one of my favorite chakra meditation videos. It is quick and touches all main 7 energy centers for a quick energy tune-up!

Create a Ritual
It is easier to meditate with effectiveness when we have props or a repeatable ritual we use each time we wish to do a chakra meditation (or any other kind of meditation). Humans are hardwired for ritual, so creating a specific routine can help you ease into the meditative state easier. Maybe you use specific meditation music, or light a candle, or use a certain incense, invoke a specific deity, say a prayer or repeat a mantra etc. However you decide to incorporate ritual, it will pay off by triggering your brain to be ready to go into a trance-like state and receive healing.
Be Patient and Consistent
We all have varying needs, obstacles and lessons to learn as we heal ourselves. Chakra meditation is not a one-and-done experience, but a carefully crafted habit that is done often in order to align and charge these energy centers. When we first start, we can easily be overwhelmed if we do not feel that change is happening quickly enough! This is a trap of the ego and should be negated when it tries to rear its head into your mental space.
Healing is messy, laborious, and never-ending. No matter how enlightened we become, we are always in need of a chakra tune-up from time to time. The only change is that when you become adept at this type of meditation, you will be able to clear, align, and charge your energy centers without the need for ANY props or ritual at all! (though you will find that ritual still brings extra comfort)
Have a Clear Goal
Before going into your meditation, it is important to have a clear goal in mind. It can be as simple as discovering which chakras are out of balance, opening a blocked energy center, facilitating healing, or balancing all 7 together. Your goal can be simple or elaborate, but it helps to have some sort of direction for the meditation to progress towards.
The Most Important Chakra
When starting out in a chakra meditation practice, it is imperative to understand why we must focus on the Heart chakra first, before we focus on the others individually.
After you have done a tune-up daily for a few weeks, you will feel nudged to explore your other energy centers. People in the spiritual community, on YouTube, and TikTok, will encourage you to explode open your Third Eye & Crown chakras, without realizing that this is another trap of the ego.
We MUST focus on the most important chakra first until we have effectively opened our heart to Divine Love. Then and only then are we safe to truly open our higher chakras without creating a karmic backlash. (I learned this the hard way)
Most humans are locked into the lower three energy centers via fear and trauma. If we move on to the higher chakras before opening our Heart, then we will encounter fear-beings masquerading as Light that will lead us astray.
I recommend starting with a chakra tune-up for the first 30 days and then when needed, focusing in on one or two chakras at a time that need more attention.
Focus on the Breath & Call in the Light
When focusing in on each chakra energy center during your meditation, place your awareness into the chakra ‘zone’ and breathe in and out while imagining White/Golden Light flowing from Divine Love which will clear, balance, align & charge each center. You don’t have to do anything more! Love will make sure that you do not overpower your energy centers and will facilitate the proper amount of healing that you need in that moment.
Later, when you are more adept you can work with the Light to call in specific colors and have certain motivations surrounding what you want the energy center to do. But when you are just starting out, trust that Divine Love will guide you to your Highest level of healing needed.
